1: Work On Being Fast. This
is the most important tip one should know. Practice this alot.
2: When Playing with specials, ALWAYS watch what your opponents are doing/getting. Keep mental notes on what they have. Important things to take note of are if they get bombs, switches and gravs. 3: When Playing Classic With Specials, Go To Make 2 Lines at the start. Be Fast with this, because if you can make those 2 lines, a line will be added to all, and a possibility from this is that when the others clear some lines, the special(s) may be added to that line you added to them, and might be harder for them to get to it. 4: In reference to previous tip, If You are playing with a good player or more, then DO NOT, I Repeat DO NOT attempt to do tip #3. Instead, take it line by line for a bit at the start, getting the specials before them. 5: When going to do a switch, build straight up from one side and gradually build to the opposite side and then close off, leaving a huge space. This is the most effective switch pattern because even if they have a g, they will still have a high part of their screen and spaces elsewhere. If they dont, then they have to waste time building up to finally clear a line. 6: If you see someone building for a switch, make sure you saw them get a switch block. If you are positive that they did, and that it couldn't be a possible grav setup, then build your field up, but don't close it off at the top anywhere, and don't mess up your field too fast just to be on the safe side. Alternatively, if you have quite a few add line specials, wait until your opponent is high up, and then use them really fast. He/she won't have time to switch and will die. 7: If your field gets really messy, and you have a gravity special, then drop your pieces all over your field except for one column (the one with the most holes) and when you see a line in the preview block area, use your gravity, and then drop the line in the column to get a tetris. 8: If an opponent is about to get good specials, you have a few options. If You have a random blocks clear you could use that, and they might not get the specials. If You have a Block Quake special, you could quake them, and they might not get the specials. If you have a Nuke field special and they dont have a very big field, you could nuke them, and they definitley won't get the specials. If you have a Clear Special Blocks special, you could use that to clear their specials. Finally, my favorite, is if you have a Switch Fields special, use it at the right time to steal their specials, making sure you dont give them anything good from your field. 9: If you are playing Free For All, and you're field is getting up, and you still have a nuke or gravity, don't use it until someone else dies first if at all possible. This is just a good practice to always follow. 10: If you see someone going for a tetris, try your best to make sure it doesn't happen. Block quake, Random Blocks clear, Block Bomb (if they have one on their field), are your best ways to make sure it doesn't happen. 11: Some ways to become a faster player are the following. Go into the control panel, and choose keyboard settings. Change Repeat Delay to "Short", and change Repeat Rate to "Fast". Also, in TetriNET under misc. settings turn off sound effects and choose no midi file to be played. 12: Don't Be afraid to make temporary holes in your field in order to clear lines. 13: If you're not playing with newbies, then DO NOT, I REPEAT - DO NOT, Build High Fields going for tetris's and the such. You will only get block quaked by your opponents and you'll die even faster. 14: If you get a g, and your field gets messed up, you can hold on to it, and clear a couple lines until some good specials appear on your field, and then use your gravity and hopefully get something out of it. 15: Have fun, loosen up and dont tense up, and dont get aggrivated. This is when you will make most of your mistakes. Try popping in a cd in your stereo or turn the radio on while your playing to keep you relaxed. More Tips coming soon... |
