TetriNET Server for Linux/Unix
Bundaberg(Brendan Grieve) has written TetriNET v1.13.06, a Linux/Unix TetriNET server. You can't play TetriNET using this, but you can however set up a TetriNET server on a Linux/Unix machine and allow TetriNET clients to connect and play. Some benefits with this server, is that it filters out cheat codes somewhat, allows tetrinet to be easier used as a server from fast connections(eliminating lag), allows for a motd for when players first connect to the server to read, and also allows the grav bot on efnet to tell how many people are exactly in the server. Here is a portion from the release notes:

What does this program do?
I created this program originally because I wanted to run a TetriNET  server off my gateway machine, which ran RedHat Linux, and masqueraded  packets between my internal network and the Internet. And thats where  my total interest lies. If a new TetriNET comes out, I _may_ try to  update the linux server.
What this program does is set up a TetriNET server that ordinary  TetriNET clients can connect to. It attempts to fix some of the  "glaring" holes in the TetriNET protocol that I discovered, and which  I'm sure some people use as cheats, but I now see why it is nearly  impossible to fix ;), without a modification to the client.
I've kept the server as close to the same as the original TetriNET  server, but I've added some extras that I've often wanted, such as  the "/kick" and "/ban" keywords.
Please note, this server in no way encompasses the whole game. The clients  are the ones that do most of the work, with the server just passing suitable  packets between each client, and of course adding some of it's own.

TClone Showing Progress
TClone by BlueCoder(a tetrinet clone that will  be compatible with tetrinet v1.13 by st0rmcat, and will eliminate cheat codes when it is ran as server, and have various other improvements) is showing great progress. The pieces now fall and are movable, and you can add lines to all in classic mode, and can use specials. Once BlueCoder has successfully duplicated TetriNET he will venture into doing some new improvements and modifications.

 T2Net v4.16 Beta in production
Xunk of Xunk Entertainment has begun production and even has a beta of v4.16 of T2Net.  Some of the proposed changes include : 7 New specials (this COULD  be a mistake in my opinion), New/modified user interface and other various sound and visual effects. Here is what Xunk stated as being planned for v4.16:

Hi all,

This mail to inform you that I'm working on a new 4.16 version for T2net.

Here is a list of improvments I'm going to implement:

- Confirmation Dialog Box to improve interface for new players (to avoid 'Left Player' joining games and pressing Ok instead of connect)
- changing default theme when detecting display with 256 colours only
- new key management to allows several keys pressed at the same time,
- 7 colours for pieces to have one colour per piece,
- Layout/Tile: A real fixed display mode for fields (default mode),
- List of available games with a dedicated connexion to a T2net server
- new special blocks with a new playing mode (Full T2net):

Extended Special Blocks effects:

F: Flip
Do a symetric vertical inversion of field lines.

T: Take
Take two special blocks from the target player field.

P: Purge
Half remove special blocks from inventory.

?: Mystery
The block is known only when going to the inventory.

D: Donate
The next Inventory block is given to another player. This block appears at the bottom of player inventory.

L: Lower
All special block from field are going down (kind of gravity for special blocks)

H: Hide
The inventory is hidden. All specials blocks are replaced by ?. Special blocks can be played anyway if you remember their effects. By doing lines the inventory is going to normal state (one special block discovered for each line done).

Some other improvements have been requested but I don't know if I will add them in the 4.16 or in a next one.

- Add wildcard for .wav files in theme (like .mid),
- add a color or bitmap selection in the theme file for actual grey parts in the field (between
Inventory and Field and between field and header),
- add personnal statistics about won game, lost game...
- change the way of the inventory display to have the next special to be played in a fixed position,- history for the chat,
- 2 differents size for chat: one during game and another outside a game,
- playing MP3 instead mid files (using Winamp).
- automatic Ladder with the T2net server.

Additional ideas and comments are welcome.

Regards,

XunK
